the one about our 17th anniversary

Rob gave me red roses yesterday after he got home work. I had forgotten all about getting roses since I was so looking forward to going out. We decided to go to Outback steakhouse since we'd never been there (Rob wanted steak. bleck) I always order a Diet Pepsi at places even if I know full well they only have Diet Coke. I was amazed when they actually brought one to me! They had someone run over to the gas station and buy a some. he he he The Hearts of Gold Chicken was amazing. Grilled chicken with artichoke hearts and sundried tomatoes. Yummm.
We had already seen The Bourne Ultimatum so we went to see The Invasion. Reviews from other viewers on Fandango said it wasn't too bad. I wasn't expecting much anyway, but it was so stooooopid. I think it would have been better if the alien pods hadn't been changed to little spores.
We Tivo'd the 1978 version of Invasion of the Body Snatchers yesterday. LOL

The one about St. George

Just got back from five days in St. George. Did lots of swimming, reading (finished Eclipse--boo hoo!!), laying by the pool listening to Linkin Park too loud in my ears on my mp3 player, and a quick side trip to look into the grand canyon. I underestimated the strength of the sun on the whiteness of my farmer tan and got a nasty sunburn! Doh!

The one about out of the blue

Deb Silva started a fun game or swap or challenge or whatever you want to think of it. Out Of The Blue Mail Party. I was brought into it by Alicia in Spain, who invited me to play. I in turn got to invite two other people to play...and so it goes. I make art for Alicia, and also for the two that I invite. Here are two of the three pieces that I made; I still have one more to go.
The top one came together really easy---I just seemed to have all the parts out right where I could easily grab them. The orange painted book paper with the hole cut into it was a scrap. (i love scraps the best---I never seem to throw anything away anymore, unfortunately, afraid that I might need it later.) It was so cool to find that orange and blue postage stamp.
The second one is titled "Constellation" and was kind of a mess. Well, it's a mess to me. :P Not sure that I like it---there isn't enough order to the messiness. I must have order somewhere in the chaos.

The one about the new swap

So, I am obsessed. My friend Amanda and I have started discussing why the Twilight books are so popular. She told me she bought Eclipse the third day after it was released, and most of the twenty or so people in line at the bookstore were mostly woman buying that book.

I signed up for an ATC swap hosted by my new blog friend, Andria. She lives in Utah, too!
It's a Twilight atc swap! sign up here--the more the merrier! Let's all be obsessed together.

I decided to just go and open an Etsy shop. I have been getting everything together and want to be open by the end of the week!!

the one about some new art

Started with corrugated cardboard (recycled) and layered paper, gesso, fabric, watercolor crayons, and paint. Added texture by swirling some thick gel medium over the whole thing with a cheapie coarse-bristled brush and letting it dry. Cherubs are toner transfers. Light pink tulle was tied on with ribbons at the very end.

The one about the major award

Whenever I think of an award, I am reminded of the "Major Award" in A Christmas Story. You know, the lamp? (You can actually buy one here!! Red Rider Leg Lamps)
Funny!

I didn't get a lamp, but something better! My award comes from another blogger, Jeanne, who visits mine often and always leaves sweet comments. I'd nominate her if I could.

"This award will be awarded to those that are just nice people, good blog friends and those that inspire good feelings and inspiration! Those that care about others that are there to lend support or those that are just a positive influence in our blogging world!"

Here are my choices of nice people:

  • Amy Grendell ( i can only wish to be like her in so many aspects)
  • Bethany (she sent me an envelope of goodies..... out of the blue!)
  • Julie (Julie got me started in the mixed media group here locally and made me feel so welcome.)
  • Wanda (Wanda is just special. I want to meet her someday if only to give her a big hug!)
  • Kim (...and my good pal Kim, who planned the big stuff and fretted the small details to make sure I had a good time in AZ in June...and i did!!)

The one about the extra stuff

I have been cleaning out my creating area. Getting rid of a lot of my scrapbooking paper and some art books. I have a large pile that keeps growing....things to put up on eBay. I also have some extra old goodies that I may end up parting with. I have been collecting small old bottles......tons of vintage looking trims. So pretty!! I have toyed with the idea of opening an Etsy store, but everyone seems to have one. don't know yet. Selling my Sparkle Bella kits went SO well ( I was truly surprised how fast they went!!), I may just sell some extra stuff right here on my blog. dunno yet.....I have thought about opening an Etsy shop to sell my artwork. After I create something, I have no use for it. I don't want to be the only collector of my art!
Here's a peek at only some of the extra trims. I am just crazy about these, but I have way too many to ever use. I have something cool planned for the old bottles---after I clean them up. :)

The one about the book cover

Artwork created on a 100 year old book cover for an "anything goes" swap in Club Creative. I have wanted to try something like this for awhile----putting elements together and not doing any painting, just assembling. Kinda like Anna Corba. I know my piece doesn't have that Anna Corba feel...I admire the way she can take old things and layer them together into something wonderful. Everything used here is old with the exception of the playing card. Cutting the hat from a playing card was something I got from Heather Simpson-Bluhm. :)
